Waitress Who Was Denied Customer’s $2,000 Tip Has Money Paid By Boss

After being inundated with abuse, the restaurant boss decided to pay the waitress the money she was previously given as a tip.

Media can have a strong influence and shape the way we perceive events and people in our society. Their power has been proved a million times before. This time, after sharing her story with a local news network, one woman corrected the injustice she experienced.

After being publicly criticized, the boss of a Texas waitress gave her the money from the$2000 tip she previously failed to receive.

Namely, Emily Bauer, 21, was working at Red Hook Seafood and Bar in San Antonio, when she was given the huge tip from an unidentified male customer. However, at the end of the shift, her bosses denied to give her the money, claiming that they could not process tip amounts larger than $500.

The mom-of-two then told her story to a local news network, and since then, the restaurant has been severely criticized by the public.

However, the establishment’s owner, John Cheng, had a different theory of the story. He said that the customer’s card had declined, so he couldn’t pass the $2000 gratuity on to Bauer.

Yet, several days later, he decided to resolve the issue and pay the woman $2000 out of his own pocket.

He said:

‘It’s Christmas time, and everybody is struggling.  ready to give it to her as a Christmas gift.’

Restaurant management explained they have been inundated by abuse, as people believed they have stiffed Bauer out of the money on purpose. One employee said that they had ‘zero customers’ all day due to the entire thing.

Therefore, the restaurant management decided to write a Facebook post and prove that the $2000 gratuity never went through on their system.

It read:

‘Let me say the gentleman’s card would not let us post [process] the tip.

We tried multiple times, Emily tried, managers tried… Visa could not force a $2000 tip on his card, it was invalid then later declined. We cannot charge a card $500 four times it’s impossible and it’s a fraud.’

They added that the man who had left the tip called to check if the waitress received the money:

‘The Gentleman called after he left that evening asking if Emily would be able to receive her tip he was told by management that the tip would NOT process and if he could come by & pay her in cash or a check written out to her he said ‘ok’ then hung up quickly.’

Emily later said:

“The fact that the owner of my job is willing to give it to me, even though it wasn’t his mess-up, I can’t thank him enough for that.”

The identity of the generous man remains a mystery, so it now seems to many that he had played a prank by writing the enormous sum on the bill.

Over the weekend, he left the once-in-a-lifetime tip after Emily kept apologizing for the service “being slow.” She explained that he understood her, as he has owned restaurants.

Yet, she was shocked to see the $2,000 tip on top of a $69.01 bill, along with the note:

 “Merry Christmas! Keep working hard!”

As her boyfriend got laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she said that she wanted to spend all the money on Christmas presents for her two sons, a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old, and added:

“We had such a rough year. I was praying for something like that happening.”

California Disney employee brags about getting COVID-19 vaccine early, hospital says leftover doses were given to non-frontline health care workers

A 33-year-old California woman who works at Disney allegedly jumped the line for the first round of her COVID-19 vaccine through a connection at a local hospital.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, bragged on Facebook about getting the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine ahead of the general public, the Orange County Register reported Saturday, when primarily just frontline health care workers and people in long-term care facilities are supposed to be receiving the shot.

“When I woke up this morning, I didn’t think I would be getting the COVID-19 vaccine today. But here we are. I’m so very happy,” the Riverside woman wrote last weekend. “Science is basically my religion, so this was a big deal for me.”

The woman told a Facebook friend that she skipped the waiting period because her husband’s aunt is a “big deal” at Redlands Community Hospital, where they had begun vaccinating employees.

Hospital officials told the Register that they had allotted their vaccines to “frontline physicians, health care workers and support staff per California Department of Public Health guidelines.”

“After physicians and staff who expressed interest in the vaccine were administered, there were several doses left. Because the reconstituted Pfizer vaccine must be used within hours or be disposed of, several doses were administered,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

As Pfizer began shipping out its vaccine earlier this month, pharmacists discovered that some of the vials contained more than the five doses they were supposed to hold. The Food and Drug Administration said in mid-December that the extra doses could be used, possibly expanding the supply by up to 40%.

But because the vaccine has to be administered almost immediately after thawing from its -94 degrees Fahrenheit, doctors administering the doses are typically not able to just save the excess for later.

GoDaddy Employees never received a Holiday Bonus. It Was Actually a Phishing Test.

Roughly 500 employees failed the test, which claimed they would receive a $650 bonus.

“2020 has been a record year for GoDaddy, thanks to you!” the email read.

Sent by [email protected], tucked underneath a glittering banner of a snowflake and stamped with the words “GoDaddy Holiday Party,” the Dec. 14 email to hundreds of GoDaddy employees promised some welcome financial relief during an otherwise stressful year.

“Though we cannot celebrate together during our annual Holiday Party, we want to show our appreciation and share a $650 one-time Holiday bonus!” the email read. “To ensure that you receive your one-time bonus in time for the Holidays, please select your location and fill in the details by Friday, December 18th.”

But, two days later, the company sent another email.

“You’re getting this email because you failed our recent phishing test,” the company’s chief security officer Demetrius Comeswrote. “You will need to retake the Security Awareness Social Engineering training.”

Phishing tests are sent by companies to gauge their employees’ susceptibility to phishing attacks, where people outside the company will attempt to disguise themselves as trusted sources to gain access to sensitive information, like usernames and passwords.

The follow-up email from Comes said that roughly 500 GoDaddy employees clicked on the holiday bonus email and “failed the test.”

Scottsdale-based GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain registrar and web-hosting company, did not respond to repeated requests for comment about the emails. The emails were forwarded to The Copper Courier by three GoDaddy employees.

Earlier this year, Forbes reported that 28,000 GoDaddy customers were impacted after a data breach compromised their account usernames and passwords. 

Despite the company surpassing 20 million customers this year and reporting “record customer growth,” the company laid off or reassigned hundreds of employees during the coronavirus pandemic, including in Arizona, Iowa, and Texas.

GoDaddy is not the first company this year to trick employees into falling for phishing scams by dangling the carrot of a potential bonus.

In September, Tribune Publishing, which owns several major newspapers around the country, sent a similar email to its employees.

The email, circulated by several furious Tribune employees on Twitter, said the company was giving out targeted bonuses of $5,000-$10,000, only to later reveal itself as a phishing test sent by the company.

“The level of cruelty is actually stunning,” Tribune reporter Danielle Ohl wrote at the time.

A Tribune spokesperson later told Vice News that the exercise was part of a regular, internal test to assess phishing risks and said that it had no intention of offending its employees. “In retrospect, the topic of the email was misleading and insensitive, and the company apologizes for its use,” the statement read.
