Nowadays, salt water flushes are very popular-these drinks are praised for the ability to detoxify the colon, but also relieve constipation. It’s promoted as part of the Master Cleanse detox and fasting program.

Flushing with salt water actually means drinking a combination of warm water and non-iodized salt. This drink has a laxative effect on the body and it usually leads to a bowel movement within 30 minutes to an hour.

For others, it may take longer. Some people swear by this drink’s power to cleanse the body of toxins, old waste, and parasites in the colon.

Although it does clean the bowel short-term, there’s no science on whether it cleanses the body from toxins, parasites, and ‘waste build-up’.

However, there’s a lot of anecdotal evidence and testimonials of people who’ve tried it out.

It may be a good option for you if you have irregular bowel movements or you suffer from chronic constipation.

How to Make Salt Water Flush?

You need:

2 tsp of non-iodized sea salt

4 cups of warm water

Lemon juice, optional

Dissolve the salt in the warm water. If you want to better the taste, squeeze some lemon too.

Then, drink the content, as fast as you can and preferably on an empty stomach.

In most cases, it’s recommended to be done in the morning, although it can still be performed in the evening, several hours after the last meal.

What’s important is to do it on an empty stomach.

Important to Note:

  • Drinking it on empty stomach may trigger vomiting and nausea in some
  • May increase the blood pressure
  • Avoid doing it if you have diabetes, edema, heart issues, hypertension, kidney issues, and gastrointestinal disease
